Department of Physiology

Overview

Our objective are to introduce the major physiological systems and emphasize the interplay of cellular, molecular and biochemical processes that underlie system function. To emphasize the homeostatic interactions that take place between those component physiological systems and that give rise to the integrated functioning of the human body. To provide a conceptual background for the function and interplay of human organ systems and provide a brief introduction to topics that would be dealt at length in the upcoming years comprising of pre clinical and clinical subjects.

Facilities

  • Haematology Lab

We have a spacious lab equipped with high end self- illuminated binocular microscopes and adequate work stations. All kind of haematological experiments are done that provide an excellent opportunity for both undergraduate and postgraduate learning.

  • Research Lab

Our research laboratory is equipped with the modern BIOPAC SYSTEMS with which non invasive recording of cardiovascular parameters like cardiac output, electrocardiogram, heart rate variability, pulse recording can be done. Neurophysiological investigations like Nerve conduction velocity, electromyography, electroencephalogram, Brainstem auditory evoked potentials and visual evoked potentials can also be recorded. Computerised Spirometry helps record various pulmonary function parameters. The data collected is analysed and used extensively for research purposes.

  • Computer Assisted Learning

We have a airconditioned simulation lab with adequate computer systems subscribed with a animal simulation software that paves a way for interactive virtual learning of the amphibian and mammalian animal experiments.

  • Amphibians and Mammalian Labs

The labs are equipped with instruments necessary for physiological experiments on mammals and amphibians. The instruments are shown to students and their vital role in establishing many physiological findings are discussed with the students.

  • Clinical Lab

Our clinical lab provides an exquisite environment for students to learn and develop clinical examination skills. Most of the instruments necessary for clinical practice are kept available in the lab and students are given hands on one to one training for mastering their usage. Also regular practical classes held ensures that the student gets trained in general and systemic examination of a subject which helps them build a strong clinical acumen.
