Department of Anatomy

Overview

The department of Anatomy handles MBBS, BPT, BSc Nursing, AHS, MSc, MD and basic science classes for clinical MD/MS. We focus on teaching clinical Anatomy with correlations. We constantly modify and introduce innovative teaching methodologies to make students competent as future clinicians. We guide UG, PG, and PhD students.

Our faculty are involved in various research projects and publish papers regularly in national and international journals. We conduct CMEs, conferences, exhibitions and guest lectures to enrich our knowledge. We constantly participate in CMEs conferences and workshops in other colleges and present papers to update our knowledge.— Quote Source

Multimedia projection & sharing enabled Dissection Hall with best in class projection system to have an integrated learning experience, So that you wont miss out on any anatomical structures shown in any of table. The hall is air conditioned to beat summers in Chennai and help students learn.

  • Genetics Lab

Genetics lab with cytogenetic facilities helping students see rare anomalies in a cellular level. Top karyotyping and fluorescent equipments. High configuration CPU to analyze chromosome banding automatically makes it easier to analyze results accompanied with high end software

  • Bandview™ EXPO

Bandview™ EXPO is designed to save you time without compromising results. You can rely on superb image quality and fast “smart” tools to streamline your workflow for both metaphase review and karyotyping. BandView EXPO works with ASI’s robust Case Data Manager to easily compare chromosomes, generate reports and manage your data. As part of the CytoLabView suite, the upgrade to SKY™, karyotyping, CGH and automatic scanning is seamless.

  • FISH

FISH technology is at the forefront of biomedical technology. FISH demonstrates high accuracy in diagnostic and prognostic decisions in disorders such as hematological malignancies, breast tumor and bladder cancer using different bio-markers such as BCR/ABL, HER2/neu and UroVysion.

  • Extensive Museum

Extensive museum with a large specimen count with variability, Specimens are not only limited to anatomical aspects but also embryological aspects and anomalies related to it.

  • Histology Lab

    Histology Lab

Well equipped and air-conditione histology lab with equally good collection of histology specimens and lab equipment. High end Microscopes for every students, Battery backed microscopes for uninterrupted studying and mobility.

  • Research Focused Teaching Learning

Research forms an integral part of the education program of the department. The undergraduate students undergo a short training course in basic research methodology and bio-statistical methods in medical research.

Department of Anatomy has always made an endeavor to direct its various research activities to the relative needs of the society. The research work is carried out in accordance with nationally and internationally approved guidelines. It has to be cleared by a committee of experts from the viewpoint of its necessity and safety of the subjects to be studied along with its ethics.

The research output has been incredible and has found recognition at the various national and international forums.

  • Embalming Services

Embalming technique is an art and science of chemically treating the dead human body, to reduce the presence and growth of microorganisms and preserve the human remains to forestall decomposition and utilize for academic purposes.

  • Plastination Procedures

Plastination technique is playing an important role in the long-term preservation of body parts and tissues for teaching. Plastination allows a long-term preservation of tissues sometimes for a very long period of time.

  • Cadaveric Workshops

Cadaveric skill labs are a valuable tool for improving the surgical skills. Considering the advantages of cadaveric workshops over other surgical training modalities, there is a need to expand the scope. This method provides an opportunity to upgrade both basic and advanced surgical skills for different grades of surgeons and in revisiting anatomy which can be translated to better patient care.

  • Respects

Respect to dead teaching the living, Paying homage to the departed soul who enlightened the students with the knowledge of human anatomy.

Students appreciation of the humanity of those who went under the knife as a service to mankind. In order to bind science and humanity it is critical to realize our responsibility to reciprocate the anatomical gift of a human body with respect, compassion, care and dignity.
