Department of Ophthalmology

 Department of Ophthalmology at Saveetha Medical college and Hospital was started in the year 2008. Department is well equipped with modern equipments for diagnostic and Treatment purposes. Complicated cases are well investigated and handled by surgically experienced Ophthalmologists. State of art surgeries are done free of cost. Department is given sanctions by Kanchipuram District ophthalmology society to conduct free eye camps and operate.

                            Postgraduate programme (MS) in ophthalmology was started in 2014 with 1 student per year. Was increased to 3 students per year from 2020.

B.Sc. Optometry course was started in September 2015. First batch started with 7 students , next increased to 10 and from 2018 ,20 students per batch

Specialty clinics are run every day. Monday – Squint & Neuro-ophthalmology, Tuesday – Cornea, Wednesday – Retina & Uvea, Thursday – Glaucoma, Friday – Orbit & Oculoplasty & Saturday – Paediatric Ophthalmology. Retina department is equipped with Fundus camera & green laser.

Operation theatre is run every day from Monday to Saturday. Surgeries done are – SICS, Phacoemulsification, Pterygium, Chalazion, Dacryocystectomy, Glaucoma and  Retina.

 Under the aegis of DBCS, camp and school screening programme are conducted.

Academic and Research Programme are taking place regularly, 250 undergraduates, 3 MS Post Graduate every year are getting trained. Paramedical, Dental, Physiotherapy students are also taught by the faculty.  

In collaboration with Aravind Eye Hospital, ROP screening is done for all premature infants.

In collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya corneal retrieval program is done in our hospital from 2019.

Every year 30 UG research projects are done under the guidance of our faculty. PG students are encouraged to do research and have to publish at least 2 articles every year.
