The Department of ENT is equipped to deal with all disorders related to the ear, nose, throat, sinus, and the anterior skull base. The expert team of ENT surgeons, audiologists, and therapists work in close collaboration with the specialties of Neurology, Pulmonology, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Oncology, and Immunology for management of ENT ailments.

Our ENT care is personalized. You can be assured that we do not recommend surgery unless it is necessary. Further, our treatment does not just end with the surgery; we keep in touch with all our patients post-surgery to check on their recovery.

Since its inception at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, the Dept. of ENT has been very active both clinically and academically. We have designated OP and OT days. We take class for 2nd year MBBS and 3rd year MBBS - Part 2 and 3 MBBS. 2 theory classes per week. Students are posted in batches in rotation for clinical posting totally 8 weeks in 2nd year and 3rd year. There are 4 theory internal assessment and 2 clinical assessments. We have 60 beds and 3 operation days.

We do 4-5 major cases and 10-12 minor cases everyday. We have a complete audiology unit doing pure tone audiometry, impedance audiometry, ECochG, BERA, VEMP and OAE – all the children born in our hospital are screened for hearing loss on the 2nd day of birth and followed up. We have a full fledged sleep lab doing work on OSA. We do micro ear surgeries, endoscopic, microlaryngeal and head – neck cases. We do all endoscopies (DNE, VLS and bronchoscopy). We have an advanced laryngeal examination called Stroboscopy for studying movement s of the larynx. All equipment are fitted with audio-visual systems for teaching and research purposes.

We have started BASLP (Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology) course under the aegis of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) guidelines. The department is fully equipped for training around 10 audiologists per year. New laryngeal and speech analysis equipment – Mr. Voice has been in use. This is in addition to stroboscopic examination. A full-fledged speech therapy and swallowing therapy section has been functioning providing various services for conservative and post-operative treatment.

State-of-the-art temporal bone dissection lab is available. Various gross ENT specimens are on display at a dedicated museum. MoUs with various leading ENT institutes are signed and play an important part on peripheral posting and student exchange programs. All facilities for online coaching classes are available with a fully air-conditioned seminar / demonstration hall. Good audio-visual aids are provided. An OPD microscope is available to help the post-graduates with practical / hands-on experience.

Academic sessions include seminars, case presentation, journal clubs, case-scenarios, etc. This applies for both the under-graduates and post-graduates. A state-of-the-art corporate OPD is also available to facilitate services for the patients covered under insurance. Our department is also an active case-handler under the CMCHIS scheme. The department has been upgraded to admit, diagnose and treat Covid-19 positive patients.
