Department of General Medicine
Overview
The department of General Medicine is a home to a large diverse group of individuals dedicated to provide the best care to the patients, educate and mentor the next generation of physicians and improve health and healthcare through innovative research. The department offers excellent care in modern day medicine and targets in reducing the mortality and morbidity in the community. The department is made up of an amazing group of physicians who together provide patient care. The doctors are qualified teachers for training the undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of internal medicine. They guide and mentor students in the field of medical research . Our faculties are also qualified with MRCP(UK) degree and are trainers for the same at present. Our faculties also have additional FICP and FIAMS fellowship. The department mentors about 250 undergraduates and 15 postgraduates per year. The department also provides clinical training to other courses that includes BDS, AHS – Physician Assistant, Diabetic Care Technology, BPT, BOT, and PhD.

Outpatient Services
Out patient department functions from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm every day.
Out patient department is run by medical units on rotation basis. Each medical unit is headed by a chief, and comprises of Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident, Postgraduate and Medical interns.
On an average , about 1-1.5 lakh patients are treated on OPD basis every year including new and review cases
Our department has organized a national conference – Saveetha Medicon in the year 2019. 600 delegates attended the conference including various national and international faculties.

In-Patient Services
In-patient services is available 24/7, with duty physicians, duty postgraduate, duty medical interns available round the clock to provide medical care.
On an average, about ten thousand to thirteen thousand patients are treated as in patients every year.
Emergency medical care - Duty physicians are available round the clock to provide emergency medical care.

Speciality Clinics
Various specialty clinics are conducted on assigned days of the week . Each clinic is headed by a chief Specialty Clinics operate from 9am to 1pm everyday Each clinic is taken care of respective units Under the respective chiefs

Rural Service
Physicians are posted on rotation basis to provide medical care in rural and urban Health centres
Medical camps are conducted regularly as part of community health services
Patients are mobilized from various rural and urban centres for further evaluation and management if needed.

Academics
Various teaching programme are conducted for both the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Clinical training is provided in hospital for both UG and PGs
Special teaching programme are conducted for UG students, such as value added courses and Vertical integration.
Theory classes are taken on a regular basis for both UG and PG Students
Exams are conducted for both clinical and theory and students reviewed accordingly.

Research Orientation
Students are involved in research projects individually and mentored by a guide
Students are counselled by a mentor and followed up on their academic and personal well being.
Students are encouraged to participate and present posters and presentations at various national and international conferences.

150 posters have been presented in various national and international conferences
149 publications have been published in various journals including scopes and indexed journals.
132 research projects have been done by UG, PG and Faculties.
Our department has received multiple awards including the best clinical department, excellence award in covid-19 management and best faculty ward

Memorandum Of Understanding
Department is associated with other organization in conducting courses like Pass The Paces- MRCP training programme, DNB practical examination and intramural projects.
Various Clinical trials including studies on covid-19 are conducted in the department. Few trials are completed and few are ongoing.
